So I started a new home yoga practice yesterday. I am an avid yogini and attend regular classes at yogafever in Cardiff. I love the intensity of the heat and the mindfulness it inspires in me when all I can focus on is the heat and the tip of my nose.
I've also been doing loads of Crossfit at Reebok Crossfit Cardiff and I have noticed a worrying correlation of activities. As I have been lifting more and getting stronger and leaner from Crossfit, I have increasingly been losing the mind body connection at yoga, particularly in my hips. This has really begun to tax me mentally as I am used to feeling 'connected' at my yoga practice.
So i've asked my yoga teacher to create me a home yoga practice based on viniyoga style. Tried my first one yesterday and it was good. All done to the beat of a metronome which takes some getting used to. Lots more concentration on the breath, I went for a 6 count in and out throughout the sequence. Took around 30 mins all told.
The challenge with all of these movements is going to be checking my ego at the 'door' of my home practice as the aim here is not to physically strain myself but to breathe into and open my deeper fascia muscles.
Really looking forward to developing his 'habit' further as it really does set me up mentally and gets me properly focused.
